You may ask yourself before traveling "Is it worth it to bring your own dive equipment"? The answer is "Yes"! Outside of carrying a larger bag, the real reason is about getting the most out of your Diving while on vacation. Renting has many downsides, including the fact that you are never more comfortable than diving with gear you're familiar with! Most hard-core divers wouldn't think twice about it. In fact it's part of the adventure! I can think of many non-diving friends that carry their own Golf Clubs & Tennis Rackets. For some this may never matter & justifiably if your traveling with family, you have a lot to deal with already. You should at least carry your very personal snorkel gear, suit and computer. You'll find it doesn't take much room & in the end is less hassle than 1 more stop before getting to the beach!

Dive Manufacturers have put in a great deal of effort to "lighten the load" by designing bags/ gear that weigh less, are more rugged, and packaged so it all fits together. I've found I can carry a full complement of gear & SLR with strobes & housing & still have only 1 bag plus carry-ons- all within the 50lb limit! Take a look at some of the new packages, especially the new Travel BCD's that only weigh 5lbs.
